Our History and Cause
In April 2003, two successful golf tournaments supporting different healthcare programs and research at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center joined forces to produce what has evolved into one of the most-respected charity golf events in the Valley: Lou Grubb Friends Fore Golf.
The first of the two tournaments was initiated in 1973 by its namesake, the venerable businessman-philanthropist Lou Grubb, who invited a few friends for a game of golf to raise money for various charities here in Arizona. After Lou underwent successful surgery for a ruptured aneurysm in 1992, his family named Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph’s the sole beneficiary of this event to give back to the hospital that saved the life of their beloved patriarch.
The second of the tournaments kicked off in 1982 to support women’s health services at St. Joseph’s, including special programs for female patients who are underinsured or without any means to pay for critical care.
Together, with the combined efforts of St. Joseph’s Foundation and Barrow Neurological Foundation, along with the generosity of golf enthusiasts in our community, the Lou Grubb Friends Fore Golf has raised millions of dollars to support critical areas of need throughout the hospital and institute.
This year, Lou Grubb Friends Fore Golf is celebrating the generosity and legacy of support from our community over the last 46 years. Please join us as we honor Lou’s memory by playing his favorite game and raising much needed philanthropic dollars for Barrow Neurological Institute and St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center.
Join us to celebrate and carry on this meaningful tradition!
